Hilarious, Witty and Heartfelt 4.5 Stars
So this is a super solid romance with chaotic side characters (Weronika and Lorelai get shout-outs), some lovely found family (the Grad or Die girls, the stray who she names The Dog) some lovely rebound/revenge stuff (where she's getting over not only her cheating ex, but that she let that happen for so long) some light family tension (this part was refreshing, instead of the stereotypical Chinese Tiger Mom, Daisy's mother is actually the traditional Chinese housewife... but just never got to fulfill that role) and an amazing he falls first and he falls HARD romance that's underlying the entire thing.
It's very geeky. So you really have to be okay with the sheer LEVEL OF NERD here. This is a be a geek, be proud of that STEM geekiness book meaning that words like math mean math... but also mean something that's definitely not math. And they're referring to board games, movies, and books in a way that might be too much for some people.
Yes, there are a couple of times when (even though Parker Elling published a historical romance so this isn't her debut I guess) she feels like a first time author. There were a couple of scenes where a small part of me felt it could have been a little bit faster. But, when I really think about it, would I give up the character development? Nah. Would I have cut out the manic pixie energy of her Grad or Die girls? Probably also not. So while I had this overarching feeling like some parts could have been faster/tighter, I also just enjoyed it too much to nitpick.
It's a super fun, super quick read and a definite recommend from me!
